“Social Fixer”: The Facebook You Want. Not The Facebook Mark Zuckerberg Wants You to Have
I joined Facebook in 2009 and the changes made to this site have mostly engendered mild annoyance to full Facebook rage since then. Every time Zuckerberg and company tweak Facebook, a hue and cry is sure to follow no matter how innocuous that tweak may be. So, my discovery of Social Fixer (formerly known as “Better Facebook” before FB flexed its legal muscles) has been a revelation. Working across multiple browsers (except Internet Explorer and if you’re still using IE, why?), Social Fixer gives you more control of your Facebook page than ever before.
Social Fixer is an application that runs in your browser only, so it will not effect the way other people see your page. But being able to change everything from color to themes and set notifications so you ONLY get what you want to see is priceless. Don’t like Timeline? Dump it. Tired of hitting “Enter” and accidentally posting stuff? Change it back to where you have to hit “Comment”. Sick of seeing all that blue? Make it pink if you want. Knock yourself out. Social Fixer has 105 different options for you to change the look, sound or interface of your Facebook page and it really feels like your page again instead of an ad farm for Mark Zuckerberg.
I highly recommend Social Fixer for anyone who wants to personalize their Facebook experience and better control the flow of media streaming on to their page. I leave the final word on Social Fixer to its creator, Matt Kruse.
From the Social Fixer FAQ:
Q: Is this thing legit?
A: Yes. Social Fixer is a personal project of the author, Matt Kruse. I am the sole programmer, designer, tester, documentation-writer, and marketer. You can view my personal site or even search Google for my name to see that I have been doing this stuff for a long time, and my reputation is solid. I build it because I love to create things, and this is my creative outlet. I’ve been working on it in my free time since 2009 and there are hundreds of thousands of people who use it every day. Social Fixer has been written about on Lifehacker, ComputerWorld, InsideFacebook.com and many other places (sometimes under it’s previous name, Better Facebook) And rest assured – Social Fixer will not compromise your privacy or security, and it won’t insert ads, spam, porn, or malware. There are no viruses or spyware. The code is safe.
